The Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (National Centre for Scientific Research), CNRS, is the largest governmental organisation for scientific research, under the authority of France’s Ministry of Higher Education and Research. It was founded in 1939 by governmental decree, in order to coordinate the activity of various units for greater returns in scientific research, such as the UMR 8173 Chine Corée Japon (China Korea Japan Joint Research Unit). It joins the China (CECMC), Korea (CRC) and Japan (CRJ) centres of the École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales (EHESS). 

 

 

Renmin University of China / School of Environmental and Natural Resources

The School of Environment & Natural Resources (SENR) was established in November 2001, based on the Program of Environmental Economics founded in 1988, and other related programs. By 2006, the SENR provided one P.H.D., six masters, and two undergraduate programs. Since 2001, SENR’s staffs have undertaken more than 100 research projects in various fields. At present, SENR has three field teaching and research stations: Qixinghe national natural reserve, Gengcheng Town, and Linzhi county. SENR has three laboratories under the administration of the centre of experiment and analysis: instrumental analysis, ecological environment monitoring and environmental systematic analysis.  In addition, SENR has successfully built long-time and steady-going cooperation with a lot of universities and academic institutes domestic and abroad in terms of education and research.

The Instituto de Ciências Sociais (ICS) of the Universidade de Lisboa is an interdisciplinary institution dedicated to research and advanced teaching in the Social Sciences. Chinese Academy of Sciences / Institute of Geographical Science and Natural Resources Research Division of Human Geography and Regional Development

CAS/IGSNRR

The Institute of Geographic Sciences and Natural Resources Research (IGSNRR), Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), was established in 1999 through a merger of two former CAS institutes: The Institute of Geography (IOG) and The Commission for Integrated Survey of Natural Resources (CISNAR). The former was established in 1940 and the latter in 1956. IGSNRR currently gives high priority to research focused on physical geography and global change, human geography and regional development, natural resources and environmental security, geo-information mechanism and system simulation, water cycle and related land surface processes, ecosystem network observation and modelling, and agricultural policies. The Institute also houses one national key laboratory, two CAS key laboratories, and maintains three CAS open ecological research stations and one data service centre for resources and environmental sciences, and hosts one industrial centre for GIS development.

ISIS

 

Istituto di Studi per l’Integrazione dei Sistemi (ISIS) is a highly specialised research and consultancy institute, whose core competence is in the field of qualitative and quantitative system analysis for policy support in the areas of Energy, Transport and Environment, information management, management of evaluation programmes, and database design and development. ISIS was established in 1971, and has since accrued a highly recognised expertise in servicing a wide range of public and private institutions, at the European, national and local level. The company has been extensively involved in 4th, 5th and 6th Framework Programme projects and is active at the national level. ISIS has also yielded considerable project management experience through the coordination of major EC funded projects.

East China Normal University (Huadong Shifan Daxue) is one of China’s key universities under the authority of the Ministry of Education. It was founded in 1951, based on the former Great China University and Kuang Hua University. The university is made up of 18 full-time schools and colleges, 2 unconventional college and 4 advanced research institutes, with 54 departments offering 67 undergraduate programs. It is authorized to offer 112 doctoral programs covering 14 Primary Disciplines, 178 master’s programs in 6 specialties. The Department of Urban and Regional Economics’ research activities are focused on following four fields: urban economy and the sustainable development; urban population and social development; urban history and urban cultural development; and urban institution and governance. It has successively taken responsibility for almost one hundred research projects in recently five years. It aims to provide help for the development of both the city of Shanghai and other parts of China.

Development Research Center of the State Council (DRC) is a leading Chinese policy research and consulting institution under the authority of the State Council, the central government of the People’s Republic of China. Founded in 1981, DRC has done a great deal of creative work in promoting the reform and openness of China. DRC has been actively involved in the policy-making processes of the central government such as the formulation of the state five-year plans for the national economic and social development and the long-term development programs as well as the research and policy-making processes on the major reform and opening-up policies in different stages. Chinese Academy of Social Sciences / Institute of Finance and Trade Economics

Institute of Finance and Trade Economics (IFTE) of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS) was founded in June 1978. The field of research in IFTE covers seven disciplines: public finance, international trade, industrial economics (economics of commerce), tourist economics, price, informatization and e-commerce, macroeconomics. The first three are listed as priority in CASS and the research level is rather high in the country. Since its establishment, IFTE has formed a tradition of integrating theory with practice, based its researches and studies on basic theories and focused on applied researches from a macro, strategic and forward-looking perspective.
